Clark Gregg takes on Haley Attwell on Lip Sync Battle

Clark Gregg is straight up toxic! At least, he’s dressed in the famous stewardess outfit from Britney Spears’ video for “Toxic.” Gregg and his fellow Marvel star, Haley Atwell (Agent Carter) went head-to-head in an epic lip sync battle on the popular Spike series, Lip Sync Battle, on Thursday, March 21. The duo have already had a series of lip syncing battles off screen with videos made using dubsmash. For those of you not in the know, dubsmash is an app that allows you to lip sync and then the app will dub over your selected audio.

Gregg and Atwell are both ABC stars. He’s on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. while she’s on Agent Carter. Gregg played the character of Phil Coulson first in the Marvel movies, and then on TV. Both of their shows are set the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the two have had a series of battles using dubsmash. The war began in 2015, when Gregg and Chloe Bennett, his co-star, called out Atwell and James D’arcy, her co-star. The two duos tackled songs like “Bad Blood,” “Bitch Better Have My Money” and the battle even escalated to Gregg wearing a dress – as Agent Carter, of course, and dubbing “We Are the Champions” Many fans decreed that Atwell won the battle, however, when she appeared with Chris Evans in a dubsmash of “I’ve Had (The Time of My Life),” with the song a reference to Gregg’s wife, actress Jennifer Grey of Dirty Dancing.

Atwell-Gregg dubsmash war even morphed into a charity event, forming #TeamCarter and #TeamSHIELD, with each team consisting of people from their respective shows. The event, Dubsmash Wars 2015, allowed fans to pay money on Crowdrise to “vote” for their favorite dubsmash team, with each $1 spent to vote going to their chosen team’s charity. TeamCarter would raise money for Stomp Out Bullying, and TeamSHIELD would raise money for St. Jude’s. TeamCarter ended up raising over $79,000 and TeamSHIELD ending up over $75,000.

Lip Sync Battle lets stars, often co-stars, best friends, or couples, go head-to-head in a two round lip sync battle. The show began as a segment on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, developed by Stephen Merchant, John Krasinski and Emily Blunt. After appeared on Fallon’s show, it has emerged into a full-fledged show with costumes, lighting, backup dancers, and more. Begun in 2015, the show has already seen guests like Anne Hathaway, Dwayne Johnson, Anna Kendrick, Queen Latifah, Terrence Howard, Channing Tatum and more.

Occasionally special guests will pop up like Jennifer Lopez and Christina Aguilera. The guests often show up when a singer is “performing their song.” Whether Ms. Spears will make it on the show as a guest of Gregg’s is anyone’s guess.

Gregg has shoved himself into a flight attendant outfit for his recreation of “Toxic” while Atwell’s performance is for The Offspring song “Pretty Fly(For a White Guy).” She uses the song to mock the straight-laced Gregg. Meanwhile Atwell then channeled her inner Lady Gaga to do the song “Bad Romance,” while Gregg took on the rap “Rump Shaker.”
